In this weeks video health tip, Dr. Matthew Davis, director of Crossroads Chiropractic, takes a look at how your gut bacteria can use certain foods to accelerate cancer growth.
Did you know there are more bacterial cells in your gut than there are human cells in your entire body.
About 10% of the DNA in your body are human cells and 90% are in your gut bacteria microbiome.
Your gut microbiota act as a filter for what you eat and your metabolism and absorption of food occurs through this filter of bacteria.
A high consumption of meat, poultry, fish, milk, cheese, eggs, can foster the growth of gut bacteria that may be playing a role in the development of colon cancer by accelerating the cancer growth.
There is evidence egg consumption increases risks for breast cancer and possibly prostate cancer.
By restricting your meat, dairy and eggs consumption and increasing your plant-based diet you can make positive changes to your gut microbial communities, leading to a longer and healthier life.
