breast cancerIn this weeks video health tip, Dr. Matthew Davis, director of Crossroads Chiropractic, takes a look at the impact a healthy lifestyle has on breast cancer survival.

Sadly, close to 25% of all women that were diagnosed with breast cancer will not survive and will eventually die from it.

Current research shows that adopting a healthy lifestyle can play a major role in the life expectancy following a diagnosis of breast cancer.

Lifestyle factors associated with an increased factors that put those at risk are:
• Excess body fat, particularly in the belly
• Weight gain, particularly in middle age
• Lack of exercise
• Smoking
• Alcohol in any amount
• High intake of dietary fat and mammal meat
• Not having breast-fed
• Night-shift work

The good news is that survival rates with a healthy lifestyle have dramatically improved by:
• Losing excess body fat
• Reducing high blood pressure, high blood sugars and high triglycerides, and raising HDL cholesterol
• Daily exercise
• Getting enough vitamin D.
• Avoiding alcohol.
• Avoiding smoking and being around smokers.
