Chiropractor Sharpsburg GA - Is there any safe amount of alcohol?

In this weeks video health tip, Dr. Samir Hajariwala, director of Crossroads Chiropractic, takes a look at how alcohol, in any amount, can increase your risk of cancer.

A recent review article in  the Journal of the American Medical Association showed any amount of alcohol can increase your risk for cancer.

Alcohol damages cells to produce Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) that can alter your DNA to cause cancer.

The alcohol industry has led us to believe it is safe for women to consume 1 drink per day and for men up to 2 drinks per day; however nearly 30% of North Americans drink more than that.

Studies have confirmed drinking even one glass of wine a day raises the risk of cancer of the throat, esophagus, liver, colon, rectum or breast.

According to the United States Public Health Service:

Alcohol kills more than 88,000 people in the United States each year.

Alcohol shortens lives by an average of 30 years.

Alcohol causes 1 in 10 deaths among working-age adults aged 20-64 years.

Alcohol related health issues costs $223.5 billion.

The take away is there is no safe level of drinking and your risk of cancer only increases with higher alcohol consumption.

By living a healthy lifestyle, which includes a nutritious diet, daily exercise and regular chiropractic visits you can change your life for the better!
