In this weeks video health tip, Dr. Samir Hajariwala, director of Crossroads Chiropractic, takes a look at the importance of vitamin B12.
Vitamin B12 deficiency impacts 6% of the population under 60 and 20% over 60.
Lack of Vitamin B12 can contribute to permanent nerve damage including damage to your brain so it should be taken seriously.
Vitamin B12 is found in meat, poultry, seafood, dairy products, or eggs, as well as foods that have been fortified with vitamin B12 like some breakfast cereals.
Unfortunately for vegetarians and vegans, plants do not contain B12.
Some signs that you might be B12 deficient include:
1. Forgetfulness or decline in mental ability
2. Muscle weakness
3. Numbness or tingling
4. Restless legs syndrome
5. Tremors
6. Abnormal gait
Many people with B12 deficiency can be treated just by eating more animal products, and most can be treated by taking B12 supplements.
Some people may need B12 injections.
You can improve your overall health by eating a nutritious diet, regular exercise, quality sleep, a positive attitude, and regular chiropractic care.
Remember you and your family can be as healthy as can be, and it’s never too soon to start receiving chiropractic care. Your best source for everything health is your chiropractor.
