Chiropractor Sharpsburg GA - Toxic Fungus in E-Cigs

In this weeks video health tip, Dr. Matthew Davis, director of Crossroads Chiropractic, takes a look at the health risks associated with e-cigarette use or vaping due to toxic fungus.

The rise in e-cigarette use or vaping has overshadowed tobacco use in teens today.

Data from the 2018 National Youth Tobacco Survey by the CDC confirmed 3.6 million middle and high school students currently vape, an increase of 1.5 million in one year.

In 2018, the San Francisco-based Juul Labs overtook the U.S. e-cigarette market with a sales increase of nearly 800%.

The rising popularity of Juul products may be the result of the highly addictive nature of Juul’s nicotine salts.

One of the most popular reason for teens choosing Juul is their assortment of fruity flavors.

A recent study found 27% of the 75 single-use and refillable vaping cartridges tested contain microbial agents and 81% contain glucan, a substance found in the cell walls of most fungi.

Researchers also found endotoxin concentrations were higher in the fruit flavored products, which may suggest raw materials used in production have been the source of contamination.

These impurities are associated with asthma, chronic obstructive lung disease, reduced lung function and inflammation.

The secret to quitting smoking is to get healthy through diet and exercise first.

And…If you are a parent, talk with your children about the risks of smoking smokeless tobacco and e-cigarettes.
