Chiropractor Sharpsburg GA - Whole Body Vibration For A Healthier You

whole body vibration therapyIn this weeks video health tip, Dr. Matthew Davis, director of Crossroads Chiropractic, shares important information looking at the numerous health benefits of whole body vibration therapy. Whole Body Vibration therapy, grew out of a program used to train Russian cosmonauts and is now used by millions of people to treat a variety of ailments as well as to enhance everyday workout and fitness activities!

Whole Body Vibration Machines stimulate muscles which will pump blood into the smallest capillaries of the body, allowing the cells to receive fuel more rapidly and causing waste products to be disposed of much faster. Also, by enhancing your local circulation they help to build a stronger immune system. In addition to helping to build bone density, fight osteoporosis or reduce pain, it appears to have useful benefits in the treatment of obesity and type II diabetes.

The therapy is undertaken by standing, sitting, lying or doing exercises on specifically designed equipment that oscillates, generally in a horizontal plane, at relatively high frequencies.
The theory is that the vibration signals are transferred into body tissues, tendons and muscles, which increases muscle contractions and ultimately improves muscle strength, co-ordination and balance. In the long term, such contractions would increase muscle mass and energy expenditure, leading to better control of blood sugar levels.

Current theory also suggests bone cells are sensitive to this vibration and respond by increasing bone density, which in theory will have a further impact on better sugar control.
A new study of obese mice reveals that whole-body vibration provides similar metabolic benefits as walking on a treadmill.

Researchers tested mutant mice resistant to the appetite-controlling hormone leptin, resulting in obesity and diabetes. They divided their animals into three groups. One group shook gently for 20 minutes each day, using whole-body vibration. The second group scurried on a treadmill for 45 minutes per day, and the mice in the control group did nothing.

After 12 weeks, the researchers found that exercise and whole-body vibration provided comparable health benefits. The mice had less fat, thicker leg muscles and showed signs of a healthier metabolism.

People who are obese often have abnormally high levels of insulin but are resistant to its effects. The researchers found whole-body vibration and exercise reduced insulin levels by similar amounts in the mice and increased their responsiveness to the hormone.

In patients who are obese or have type II diabetes, fat often accumulates in the liver, sometimes leading to organ malfunction and even death. The mice that worked out on the treadmill or lived in the vibrating cages harbored about one-third as much fat in the liver as did the control rodents.

Whole-body vibration doesn’t provide the same cardiovascular or respiratory benefits of physical activity; however,

Whole Body Vibration has been known to:
• Burn fat and reshape the body in the hip, waist and abdomen.
• Tone and build muscle.
• Increase Bone Mineral Density
• Tighten the skin.
• Decrease cellulite and boosts your body’s natural collagen production
• Reduce high blood pressure
• Reduce recovery time after workouts.
• Dramatically increase flexibility: Due to better blood flow, heating of the muscles and the tendon stretching reflex, the body becomes much more supple and relaxed.
• Improve sense of balance and coordination: The receptors in the entire body are stimulated at the same time, which leads to improved coordination of the relating muscles at the same time your sense of balance is being trained.
• Alleviate stress: Causes better mood and sense of well being. The vibrations help you relax and can also help you fight insomnia.

It’s also a great option for the many people who can’t workout because of various health issues.
